Help Restore Sleepy Creek When You Convert Turf To Trees
Buy up to 6 trees through special SWCA partnership, order by August 15, 2019
You can sense it in the early morning chill, the shortening of the days, and the sounds of the cicadas. It might be 90 degrees in the afternoon, but fall is on its way. Along Sleepy Creek, September is the time for planting trees. Not only do they beautify your property and provide shade and food — for you and for wildlife — they help keep Sleepy Creek clean by slowing down stormwater that can pollute and damage the stream.
Sleepy Creek Watershed Association has teamed up with Cacapon Institute’s Turf-to-Tree program to offer each homeowner in the watershed up to 6 trees at the low cost of $25 each for flowering, shade, and evergreen trees. Fruit trees are available for only $30. Warm season grasses are also available.
These are large stock-size trees (5-7 gallon containers that are 1” caliper and 6–8 feet tall at time of planting). Stakes, tubes, and arbor ties are provided. You are required to attend a one-hour tree-planting workshop.
