Project CommuniTree at Sam Michaels Park

Project CommuniTree at Sam Michaels Park

On April 5, 2014 about 50 volunteers gathered for a tree planting and park clean-up at Sam Michaels Park in Jefferson County, WV. Volunteers from Elks Run Watershed Group, Boy Scout Troop 83, Harpers Ferry Cub Scout Pack 42, and the Isaac Walton League helped clean up the park and plant 24 trees and shrubs along Elks Run to create a riparian buffer.

WV Project CommuniTree promotes tree planting and education on public land through volunteerism in the Potomac Headwaters of West Virginia. CommuniTree is a program of the The Cacapon Institute, the WV Conservation Agency, and the WV Division of Forestry, that is engaged in on-the-ground actions throughout the Potomac headwaters.

The tree plantings continue to be a win on all fronts — more trees in the ground, greater awareness brought to the watershed, a fun and exciting way to involve the community in caring for the watershed, and more opportunity to partner with other community groups and meet new people.
