Hats off to our partner and stalwart board member, Bobby Whitescarver, for being honored by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay as the Watershed Champion of the Year for 2016. Bobby accepted the award at the Alliance’s 45th anniversary celebration in Annapolis, Md., September 15. Also honored was Tom Schueler, who received the Environmental Leadership Award.
Bobby teaches Natural Resource Management at James Madison University and is a freelance writer. His award-winning blog, Getting More On The Ground, offers open conversation with farmers on best management practices. Bobby and his wife Jeanne, a ninth generation farmer, also lead by example. They’ve installed buffers and watering and pasture systems on their own commercial cow-calf operation in Swoope, Virginia.
