A Call to Action! Aldie needs your Help! Board of Supervisors Public Meeting – January 13th

January 6, 2021 Uncategorized

Goose Creek Association joins the effort with the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area Association to bring awareness to the proposed “Aldie Asssemblage” Join our voices to oppose the conveyance and project.

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has proposed conveying the “Aldie Assemblage,” the three county-owned Aldie properties that we fought to save from being developed into a modern firehouse, to the Mojax developers as part of their deal to buy the threatened 16.4 acres in St. Louis.  According to the county’s parcel database, this St. Louis land is valued at $474,400.

The county cost in the new proposal:

  • The “Aldie Assemblage” (the county has invested over $1.7 Million here)
  • $1.5 Million cash
  • $600,000 matching grant for improvements to the Aldie property
  • A public access road from Route 50 to an adjoining Aldie parcel owned by one of the Mojax developers

This new proposal has the county significantly overpaying in value for the St. Louis property and it would move the unwanted developer out of one historic village and into another, creating a host of new problems in Aldie.  If this transaction goes through, the proposed new development at the Aldie Assemblage site would include several new structures, totaling almost 35,000 square feet of brewery, retail, and guest room space, parking for 164 vehicles, and a new public road that will connect to Route 50.  It is imperative that the community speak out in opposition to this proposal which will be heard on January 13th.

Please Take Action:

  1. Submit your concerns to the Loudoun Supervisors via Email: bos@loudoun.gov
  2. Sign up to speak against the proposal at the January 13th hearing by calling 703-777-0200 on January 12th, the day before the hearing. You can register to speak remotely or in person.

Talking Points:

  • Thank the Supervisors for answering our call to construct the new firehouse outside the historic village of Aldie and for their leadership in working to protect St. Louis, but stress that we need independent solutions for each historic Loudoun village.
  • The proposal has the county significantly overpaying for the St. Louis property.
  • The developer has a long history, including in Aldie, of disregarding county, state, and federal law, and has never shown interest in community opinion. The proposal solves one problem by creating a host of new problems in another historic Loudoun village.
  • The scale of the proposed aggregate “Aldie Park” facility on the “Aldie Assemblage” property would dwarf the surrounding village and destroy its historic charm, in addition to creating negative environmental impacts from the required amount of steep slope grading.
