Water Distribution Assistance Needed this Saturday!
We need help distributing water to the Pineville, Jenkinjones, Thorpe, and Leckie communities this Saturday, March 9, 2024.
Residents in Southern West Virginia are without access to safe drinking water. Independent tests have shown lead, arsenic, and aluminum hundreds of parts per billion over our water quality standards. According to an article from Appalachian Voices, the origin of these pollutants is believed to be the effects of former coal mining in the area, which no company is held responsible for cleaning up.
Organizers have secured 8 pallets of water, and 8 more are on the way — but we need trucks, trailers, and willing hands to make distribution happen.
Volunteers will be needed beginning at 9 am. To sign up and receive your assignment, please contact Mariah Clay at mclay@wvrivers.org.
Please spread the word and make sure our neighbors have safe drinking water!
